I have a 10-year old computer with win98 1st. Several years ago I successfully installed a 2nd hard drive, a western digital, and it has worked fine since. I noticed that under windows explorer it is not listed as usual. I went into cmos and there is a panel that says "IDE Hard Drive Detection". The C drive is listed as the master. It use to be the one I installed was listed as the slave. It is no longer listed there, all zeros. Hope this isn't a bad one. I've rebooted and the same result, no 2nd hard drive. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Check that the cable is still tight or possibly a new cable. Check the power cable is still tight. If still not working try it in another system and see if it's detected.

Thanks Pat, it worked. I disconnected both hard drives, straightened out the cables, reconnected, and bingo it works fine now. It may have been caused by a move I just made to a new place.
