There is a tool for AMD compatibility with SP3

This tool may be used by AMD end-users prior to installing WinXP SP3

This will eliminate the problem some AMD processors are having with WinXP SP3

The actual problem is caused by a file for Intel processors (IntelPPM problem)

Jesper Johansson's blog
This tool will detect the AMD IntelPPM problem and mitigate it before installing the service pack.

scuzzy

I have run this tool on all of my AMD based computers, and it works as advertised. It prevents the endless restarts that's experienced by a few AMD based computers when installing SP3 on Windows XP.
