Can't register Acronis Migrate Easy

I am unable to register my trial-copy of Acronis Migrate Easy. Installation pgm gives me the following message: "A possible reason is your firewall or proxy. Please stop the temporarily and try again."

I have turned off my firewall, but what is "proxy" now again, and how do I turn it off?

BTW I've got a feeling I should know the answer to this one... but I am completely blank... :-)
