I have a server running 24/7 for CCTV and email backup.  Since it runs 24/7 I figure I might as well use it for storing backups as well.  I've got Samba up and running and I can see SERVER01 in my workgroup from an XP PC but I'm having problems setting up a share.

I don't want to have to enter a password to access the shares, but if I create a public share it simply doesn't work at all.  If I create a user share I can see it but get asked for a password (which I don't know!).

Any ideas?  I'm totally new to Samba and so used to the simplicity of setting this up in Windows that I didn't anticipate how difficult Linux would be.

I don't know if you've seen it, or even if it helps, but I came across this http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/8955.html.
