I have noticed a couple people with rather LARGE avatars that seem to take up a lot of space on the screen.  Is there a prefered size for them?

Carskick

One that doesn't take up too much space for text is my guess.

Yes there is a preferred size, if you take the time to read through our guidelines you?ll see it?s 100x100 pixels.

The ones you provide I think were fine - but people who used their own images hosted on a nother site seem rather large

Carskick

If you host one on another site, you can always size it down with a program such as photoshop to 100 pixels wide.

Then maybe yours would be termed slightly big, Cars. It puts the text out of alignment a little bit, so maybe you could do a teeny bit of downsizing, or cropping, whichever you want. I like your pic, but it's a teeny bit big. Even 20px makes a difference, especially on an 800x600 or (as is with one school computer) 640x480 screen.
