The Athlon system is a better buy performance wise.
Neither of those is a gaming video card, if that's a consideration.
Again, make sure the drive is not from Maxtor.
If you want gaming, step up to a Nvidia 6800 (non GT and non Ultra for about $200) for better performance.
The FX5700 was a good gaming card a year ago. Now, you can get a 6600 for a simiar price, and it's a much better performer. The FX5700 should be fine as long as you don't play too many DX9 games.
The Athlon 64 is a much better choice. If you are willing to spend that money that you showed in thew P4, then get 1GB of RAM for the A64 system. I have 512MB, and as time goes on, I wish more and more I had 1GB.
Increase the amount of memory if you plan on moderate or greater multitasking.
Agreed, FX5700U is not a good buy anymore, and is getting harder to find. The 6600 has about twice(!) the performance for a similar price.
You didn't mean to list the Gb ethernet as a separate card, since that feature is built into the A8V Deluxe, right?
Well,,,, Mrs. Bubba gave me "that look" when I was talking a new pc. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I am getting "parts" for my Dell 8100. What happened was, the plastic brackets that hold the cpu heat sink failed, and let the heat sink,,,, fall off. YIKES !
I will post more in a different forum, since this is not a System Build issue anymore
