As an experiment I got out my old Windows 95 OSR2 CD and installed it on the following notebook system:
- Intel Celeron 1.2GHz
- 512MB PC133 RAM
- 40GB 4200RPM UDMA100 HDD
- Toshiba SD-R2412 DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive

Guess how long it took to install, not counting disk format, but including typing in the CD key and selecting regional options etc.

hmmm sometimes older is slower, but soemtimes
older is faster if on newer hardware. id say 13 minutes. If i remember right there is less optimization and driver installation time for windows 95 then  the newer versions of windows
but im not sure its been soooooooooooo long.
gee what was i doing when i had win 95? playing pipe dreams?

Enjoy the nature that is around you rather than destroying it.

Neon

No, he is waiting for everybody to send their guesses before this contest closes.  ;)

I will guess, oh...    64 minutes.

I based my guess in the time it took to install 95 on my old PBell 120.  Since it took about 40 minutes, I figured that a CPU that was 4 times faster should be able to do it in no more  than 1/3 that time.

scuzzy

The last time I installed Win95 on a system was back around 1998. If I recall, it took about 23 minutes on my Dell XPS PIII-350MHz with 64MB of RAM.

Did I never give the answer to this question?  Whoops!  I've completely forgotten how long it took now.  ;D

Ace

It took you a little over a year and a half.  Your original topic was Sept. 2005, and it's just April (just spring) 07.  I mean, I remember Win95 as slow but not that slow.  I've seen people take awhile to respond here, so I guess it's not that unusual.

Why don't you see if you have a disk with Windows 3.1 and give that a go. If it's over two years, remind us what the question was.

Ace; probably on one of those 5" floppies...
Ring bells for service.

geesh this  topic got buried and i even remembered i was quite curious  to see the result ;D

Now where did i put that 95 cd? I wanted to actually unearth it just in case the Cylons attack and more modern Windows Versions are rendered useless.
