Does anyone know a specific free .ASP email system I can implement on my site?

I would also like the email service to be able to receive (download)my hotmail and yahoo accounts onto that email service.

I need to do this because I want to check email at school and they use some email blocking software. So I could bypass it by using the above method

I think there's a new thing on tucows.com that redirects your hotmail to another account, and gawab.com can do external mail.

It sounds like you want to set up a Microsoft mail server. I believe their product is called Microsoft Exchange. You will also need to register a domain for the server, and learn to configure it so that it does not get 0wnd by spammers.

Hi neon.

Would I have to install this program and use my computer as the server? if yes, I'm not prepared to do that. I have 56k.

Does anyone have sites or more solutions?

Thanks for your help neon,

In order to run a mail server you will need:

An always-on Internet connection with at least one static IP address.

A DNS pointer for the machine (called an A record, along with a mail exchanger -- MX record).

An Exchange server is an extremely hardware-intensive setup - you will need a system with as fast a CPU as you can afford and at least three large partitions -- one for the OS, one for logs, and one for the information store).

Exchange is also fairly expensive - you will need Server 2000 or Server 2003, plus Exchange server 2000 or 2003, plus a client license for each network connection, plus a mailbox license for each user.

This may seem like a dumb question, but have you tried speaking with your school's IT administrator? He/she may be able to help solve the problem so you can get the mail. It is possible that the blocking software is configured to improperly block some useful sites. IT admins tend to be overly cautious about what to let in, so it may just be an oversight.

Hi Neon,

I think the blocking software is configured in the server of Catholic Education which is in the capital city of my state.
(I go to a catholic school..obviously)

(I don't live in the capital city and nor do I know anyone working for the Catholic Education's Server.)

Hrm, probably be easier if i bypassed it using my own .asp email service.

Thanks for the help guys,

Simon

If I remember correctly,

some sites are blocked by websense and some sites are blocked by some novell manager.

Some locations will block download of offsite email as a virus-prevention measure.  I would not try to get around such blocks without talking to your administrator first - doing so could be a policy violation that might get you in trouble.
