Scuzzy, nice monitor. I saw one at a local computer shop today. Real nice display. Almost as nice as my Samsung LCD. My native resolution is 1024 X 768. Albeit mine is only 15in I am spoiled when looking at a CRT. You mentiioned a 4 year warranty. Does that mean you have an additional 4 years ontop of the original 3 year wrranty or does it run concurrent to give you 4 years or that it adds one more year to the 3 year. The reason I ask is the place I purchased my LCD wanted to extend my 3 year warranty for 4 years but the extended warranty ran concurrent with the 3 year and I said no. Especiall for the price they wanted. Yeah why couldn't they throw in another LCD for free.

John,

I'm glad you mentioned it. I was told one thing, but the contract clearly says something different. I knew that the contract would run concurrent (so I thought), but I was okay with that for all the benefits that the salesman told me about. However, it turns out that it isn't exactly concurrent, nor does it add four years. In reality, it is a 1 year extension of the manufacturer's warranty.

The contract was sold to me as a "4 year contract", instead of a 1 year extension. Reading the fine print, the contract goes into effect on May 25, 2005 and expires on May 25, 2006. This is nothing at all like what the salesman explained. The salesman outright lied when he said that the contract kicks in after 30 days, and he outright lied about all the benefits of the contract.

Needless to say, I'm cancelling the contract today. Also, Circuit City will receive a complaint from me for false representation.

Scuzzy, isn't it sad that retail companies continue to lie in order to sell ad-on products that clearly do not match what the salesman tells you. Circuit City is notorious for that. Do not feel bad they got me once. My wife thinks I am rude when I scrutinize salsesman's pledges and descriptions of products. And it's not just limited to Circuit City it's rampant in all forms of business practices. You would think that they would care enough about their customers not to lie and decieve. But alas and forlorn that is not so. Most of the time they apporach you after you agree to purchase the hardware or product. You give them your credit card or start to pay and WHAM they hit you with the Ad-on pitch. Extended warranties are a Billion dollar industry alone in this country. Phillips, GE, and and number of Insurance companies run this business.

Having ranted for a few I will tell you that most likely you have an extended warranty. If you purchsed the LCD with a credit card check and see if they don't automatically extend the warranty for one year. Check it out.

John,

Mostly, I'm upset that I allowed myself to be taken. I know better, and I'm too experienced to have any excuses.

As for the credit card, mine does not provide any extended warranties. However, the 3 year warranty provided by NEC should be more than enough for my needs.

Scuzzy, no problem. We all want to believe that people are decent and truthful. Some are some arn't. I like to think I'm a wiser man than I was then.

You're right, John. On another subject, check your email. I've got some news to share with you.

Well, if Scuzzy knows better and that's not enough I don't know what to expect in my case. Actually, still have the good'ole Quantex in it's good'ole Q case sitting here by my side. Dangit.

You know, after buying a couple TVs at Circuis City they sent almost weekly urgings about extending the warranty. I mean, for the 31" RCA it was a serious chunk of change. For the 13" kitchen model it was about half its cost.. I just ask them if they're expecting their stuff to break when they push the warranties.

I did buy a couple Canon printers last couple weeks at Best Buy. Mostly because no one else carries them. (Oh, Walmart advertises they do but they apparently hid them even from themselves....). I got a S300 for my niece and a S520 for us since it dropped $20. Haven't put it together yet. What's annoying there is the BB Interrogation: criminy, you start looking at stuff and you get the 3rd degree: "Are you looking for a printer is this to replace a printer oh you're looking at Canons why is that do you have internet you know that has to be USB'd why that one oh I'm not talking about reviews even though you've read them and I haven't and you know more about them than I do that won't stop me from annoying you will it you know you should get extra ink cartridges don't you want the extended warranty?"

Most of the irritation came from a guy, in a wheelchair in the middle of aisle, wearing an Office Depot shirt. Go figure.

Actually, I may pick up a 19" MAG monitor that's down to $149 there. I know, it ain't state of the art. But everything else is at least a $100 more, and I don't wanna go big-bucks for an LCD, and a Diamondtron would drive me nuts with the visible wire, and even a flat screen is curved. On the inside. I like the 17" MAG I've been living with that came with the Q, and I would like a few more resolutions and tad bigger viewing.

Otherwise, I wish Scuzzy would go back to being a tech advisor administrator and let me play the fool again. Geez, it was my job, dangit.

Ace; guess I'll try to put in the new ceiling fan in the other bedroom. Probably won't be able to boot the window in there, after..
