Toshiba Standby Mode Problem

Have a Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT that was previously configured to go into standby when cover is shut.  Now I get a "missing generic device driver" error and system won't go into standby.  Please advise via e-mail to Barry @ bgeorge@ix.netcom.com.  TOSHIBA SUPPORT WANTS $55 TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS!!!
