I've been trying to connect my latitude via usb and the cable modem.  Been so long since I've used win98se I've forgotten.
Loaded the modem software and drivers, tried Microsoft client and Family logon, I'm missing something.
Desktop uses ethernet connection flawlessly.
Help please.

USB drivers?  USB support for Windows 98 is not built in as I recall and can be flaky.

I think you have to power cycle the modem as well if you are swapping the modem from another machine.

Any chance of using a regular Ethernet connection?

I did come across this though.

Thanks pat.  No, has to be USB.  I've gotten it to work with the Motorola modem.
Buff had the right idea.  Seems the modem gets confused when I switched from ethernet to USB. I  had to power off the modem and restart, not simply reboot.
Now seems to be working fine.
Thanks all.

Well...I did say "I know nothing"

Mind you, judging by the result that's not true.

Buff; It sometimes pays to work for a cable company.  Once a month usually.
