Title: Can't install iTunes for Windows
Post by: LugwidVanB on July 02, 2009, 16:54 hrs
I don't know if this is the correct forum to post this but I go to the itunes dl site and dl the 8.2 version. It saves to the temp file and under Properties it has the correct size, 74 mb. But I try to "run" it, or double click it, to install and nothing happens. I have xp which as I understand it is all that is needed. Thanks for any assistance.

Give this web page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421) a try and see if it helps you resolve your problem.

Are you trying to install it on a limited XP account? That would prevent you from installing it. You need the XP user account to be a power user or administrator to install the software.

I created a new user account, then went to the itunes dl site and did it again. I click run, it dl, then I click run and get a box that says: There is a problem with this program. Unknown publisher.

I go thru the security certificate thing and it is successful, but then the dl box disappears. This is the same everytime previously. I am to the point I don't give a s*** about this anymore. I have plenty of music anyway.

Who needs itunes?? If you have windows you can go to Amazon and dl a very small program that lets you quickly dl an mp3 for .89 or .99 cts, no tax. It dl's the music into wmp. Far easier that fooling around with itunes.

Update: Amazon works great. Easy to use, huge selection and around a dollar a piece, including excellent classical music pieces that are often longer than pop music. I just looked up a particular Chopin piece I liked and got 50 hits on just a minute long piece. But, itunes now works. I dl it and it installed easily whereas before it would not so somebody did something to make it work. I'm hooked on Amazon so it is the first choice for mp3s. I can play them on the computer or burn them on a cd and play them in the car.

I have been buying Amazon MP3s for some time now. I agree... their selection is excellent and the quality averages 256Kbps. Althogh a few selections are $1.29, the vast majority are $0.99 with a few at $0.89.

I am also offered free music on a weekly basis. I have so far downloaded about a dozen free tunes that I listen to and enjoy. All except one are from unknown artists.
