so, ive had alot of problems with my verizon dsl connection...it intermittently disconnects on its own, then comes back online after minutes or hours.  this has been going on for months... ever since my dsl service was new.  when my dsl would reconnect on its own the speed would fluctuate from my normal T1 connection to about 256k, but ALWAYS returned to the T1 speed after resetting the modem.   after a thousand calls or so, to verizon, they finally sent a technician out to my home. he found that my dsl signal, according to the tech, was not focused strongly to one point and "boucing" all over the place.  he then made a "homerun" configuration in which only one phone jack in my home has dsl signal and capability now.  i let him now that the connection was weak at only 256k.  he stated that i would no longer have the auto disconnect issue, and that was what he was at my home to fix.
ive called verizon several times since, and they are lost... they told me to call back tomorrow when there systems would be updated to help me troubleshoot alittle better.
any ideas on what may be causing my poor connection?  i hope one of the resident experts may help me to find the culprit that verizon could not...thanks again.

It could be as simple as a problem at the pole or it could be a problem with your home wiring. It is hard to diagnose a problem over the internet. Do you have other broadband internet providers available to you if you need to switch?

verizon is stumped and says they will diagnose for the next few days.  they have no clue of what it is?!?

ummm, i think there is also time warner cable modem? is cable as fast as dsl? and im worried that i am going to run into this same problem with another provider...you think it is possible?
thanks

If the problem is on Verizon's end, then cable will probably give better service. If DSL was working properly, it could be faster or slower than cable depending on where you live. Right now, cable would be faster if Verizon can't get your DSL working correctly.

so, verion sent out a specialist today to find the culprit.  it turns out my router was set to route, instead of bridge.  thats it, now im running at t1 again.  thanks for the insight.
