I was able to install xp. All your input was very helpful as well as Black Viper. The problem came when I tried to connect to the net. I spent 3 days trying to solve this to no avail. I was on the phone with the isp who went through process of attempting to dl and install drivers but couldn't do it. Finally, he told me I had an ethernet card problem. I found a local computer guy and he immediately told me that if I had reformatted the drive then bios info relating to the lan cable was erased. I went into the bios and 'enabled' the lan cable, the into windows and installed drivers from the asus mb cd. This solved the problem. Curious why no one thought of that, esp the isp dude.
I did 3 partitions, windows (100gb), files (10gb) and photos/videos (the rest which is around 46 gb). This is going to be very helpful and I appreciate your instructions on this. One thing I need to know is how do I make word open to the new files drive when I click Open. Thanks,

There is an option in Word setup to change the default storage location,

For MS Word file locations:
1. Go into tools and then options from the Word menu bar.
2. Select the tab "file locations."
3. Change the directory location for "documents" to be the same as the location you want your files.
These instructions are for Word 2003, but should be similar to any other version of Word.

Here we go again. I had the avg free before and I tried to install it now. It failed and gave this error message:

Do you have Adaware on your machine? Some people find Adaware causes problems with installing AVG. I am thinking you should consider starting a new thread as this one has gone way off target from the original problem of logging in as administrator.

I wonder if you enabled Boot from Lan? Simply formatting your drive shouldn't have changed any BIOS settings, all you needed to do was install the network drivers.
I thought so too. But the computer guy I talked to said it would erase some things in the bios and the lan cable was listed as 'disabled'. I changed it to 'enabled' and installed drivers from the mb cd and the internet instantly worked.
Regarding avg, I found a trial version of norton on the mb cd. I installed it and it updated it and said the trial version is good until October. So goodbye avg.

Just to clarify this... the motherboard BIOS is COMPLETELY separate from the hard drive. You can format the hard drive until the cows crash into the moon and it will not affect a single setting in the BIOS. You can take the hard drive out, shoot it a dozen times and hit it with a fragmentation grenade, and it still won't affect the BIOS.
One more thought on the BIOS issue, if there is no power to the system and if the BIOS battery is dead, it will most likely reset to factory defaults when you put power to it again. That could explain the network issue or if it happens again you would know to change the BIOS battery.
