You should occasionally check for updates as new definitions come out once in a while. You can do so by opening the program and then click "Download latest protection updates."

ahh, thanks just did it.  should i erase the items on my "block list" under the explorer heading? or just leave them with the check mark? thanks

Just leave them and make sure you have protection enabled for those items that are checked.
