That's a really cool tool. Does it actually convert stereo sources into 5.1 so that it sounds as if it were a 5.1 source, or does it simply split the stereo to all 6 speakers?

It lets you define how much of each channel goes where.  So, far example you can increase or decrease the bass level if your satellites aren't quite up to the job.  And you can specify inverted levels, which give a pseudo-surround effect.  There's also advanced things like speaker delays for each channel and dynamic range compression.
