I have an IBM Thinkpad 380D. The LCD doesn't come on. When I hook it up to external monitor it works fine. Could it be the inverter that's bad? Any test I can perform? Thanks Joe L.

query

If the image is very faint, but still there, it's probably the inverter.  If there's no image at all, there is something else wrong.

Yes the image is very, very faint you can barely see it. Thanks Joe L. javascript:replaceText(' :o')

Yes, the lamp and/or inverter has failed - it's a common issue with many ThinkPads.  The parts cost only about $50 -- the rest of the repair would be labor (another $100-150) unless you can tackle the job yourself.

You can find CCL/inverter combos at
