a problem about connect two laptops

one laptop is windows xp home edition,another is windows 2000 professional edition.i want to connect them by network card,but i don't know how to setup.could you tell me the detailed process of setup?thank you guys.

wjh, more information is needed.  How do you intend to use them and for what type of connection.  Do you want to connect them to the internet or do you want to connect them together so they share information back and forth.

The easy way (probably the best) is to buy a LinkSys router. They cost about $150 (US).
