Virtual Computer Ports

Hey all,

Got a couple quick questions. First, what exactly is a virtual computer port? I'm looking for a general description and definition. Also, how do you direct data to different ports? Finally, what are some of the most common port addresses and their use(s). (Not looking for hardware ports btw).

Any and all help is appreciated.

Are you referring to webserver ports (virtual webhosts)?

I'm refering to virtual computer ports, ports that are not physical but reside on the computer digitally, of any kind.
