Up until now I have mostly used desktop PCs, mainly because I find that performance/cost-ratio is better with those. Now however I have received an offer to buy a used HP NC 6000 laptop for aprox. 120 $US. Since I have never used laptops much I have a question:

Is it hard to upgrade a laptop, for example a new DVD-burner, extra RAM, graphic-card etc? I find desktops easy to upgrade, but have never tried a laptop...

Most laptops are fairly easy to upgrade, with the exception of the video card. That chipset is hardwired onto the motherboard, so whatever graphics it comes with is what you're stuck with. Adding RAM is normally fairly easy, as is changing the hard drive. Sometimes the DVD drive is proprietary, but the process of replacing it is also fairly easy.

Just keep in mind that you're dealing with smaller parts, as well as smaller screws, which will require gentle care. A clean working area that's well lit is desireable.

Thanks! Your information wa very valuable to me... Most likely I will buy the computer in question... if nothing else to have a laptop to practice on... :-)
