Laptop com ports and docking stations

I have a Dell Latitude CPi and am having some problems with the docking station com ports.  I am trying to get a com port to work with a digital camera (specifically) or really just anything.  I went into the BIOS and checked the settings.  It needs to be on Com 1 to work properly.  I change the settings to make it on COM1 and it worked, once.  Since then, I cannot get it to recognize anything.  It keeps swithching itself to COM5 (and sometimes COM2) and no matter what I do I cannot get it to stay on COM1. When I talked to Dell, they had me disable the infared on the docking station, make sure the modem wasn't using COM1.  I did this and still no luck.  Does anyone have any suggestions.
