Title: What's your favorite Rocky
Post by: pat on November 27, 2008, 11:08 hrs
I just noticed that one of the stations here has the all day, all the Rocky movies on.

So I just wondered;

Have you seen them all?

Like them?

Have a favorite?

Sure, I've seen them all and found them entertaining. I liked the third one the best, I just thought Mr T. as Clubber Lang was the best. The fifth one was the worst in my opinion.

I guess the first was my favorite, mostly due to good memories at the time the movie came out.

I watched it in a drive-in theater in Walnut Grove, California, in my black 1968 Mercury Comet Capri, along with a family friend. I had just completed basic training in Fort Ord, California. I was single, a complete dork (pimples and all), and I had the whole world before me.

Scuzzy; now it seems the world is on top of me

I believe they are rated in order of appearance.  The first was a classic.  The second was alright. I liked the snow training scenes in the Russian one.  I remember putting on rubber overboOts, and going out to the snow covered park to run.  I thought I would die after 20 yards.

I like any of them with Bullwinkle, too.  They're all good.  The one with the Kirwood Derby was a favorite.  When Rocky went Rambo I think they lost the charm.

Ace; no way am I drinking a glass of eggs.

IMO the first was a classic poor boy with drive makes good.  My overriding favorite was the "Eye of the Tiger" not the movie it was used as a theme, the music.

I love the song "Eye of the Tiger!"

The first was certainly a classic.

I liked the one with Clubber Lang in.  I thought "That can't be his real name" so I looked for this real name and it was "Mr T".  Huh?

Looked for his real real name and found that it's Laurence Tureaud.  Huh???

Buff; He looks more like a Clubber than a Laurence.

So he's French.  Well, I guess that explains it.  Not sure what, but at least why he's now doing cooking infomercials.

Songs That Didn't Quite Make The Rocky Balboa Series:

Ear of the Donkey
Trunk of the Elephant
Trunk of My Ford
Nose of the Rhino
Tail of the Monkey
Butt of the Fat Squirrel Crushing Peanuts On my Patio
Pinky Toe of Pauly
Bad Hat of the Adrienne
Hot Tub of James Brown
Ribs of the Cow
Armpit of the Boxer
Flattop of the that big Russian Boxer
Flattop of the girlfriend of that big Russian Boxer
Fin of the Goldfish

Ace; Oh, and "Horns of the Moose" from the one with Boris and Natasha

Shoot; you're right.

Ace; those were huge.

Boots of the Alligator should have made the cut.

I'm not keen on the jester's feet, though. Then the whole movie would have been about the weird odor.

Scuzzy; Feathers of the Bird

Nothing is more dangerous than "Butt of the skunk!"

Just imagine - Butt of the skunk, he will put up a stink......

Mark H; something is starting to smell bad

I fully agree. I'd be much more terrified of "Butt of the Skunk" than I would be of "Eye of the Tiger".

Scuzzy; there's always "Tooth of the Croc"

Butt of the skunk... I've gotta remember that to yell at people who drive badly near me.  That's quite an anatomical picture.

You know, the eye of the Tiger isn't what worries me.  It's the teeth.  And claws.

Ace; I'm glad I don't have The Knee of Tiger.

It's funny, when you just look at the main page there and see this poast, it's like "What's your favorite Rock?"

Made me think about rocks, not that I have a favorite. I do have that one that sort of looks like a face, an alien face. And then I have the one I found with the impression of a Trilobite. I keep that one out in the garden, it must be pretty old. That's all the rocks I have, well except for just the ones that turn up when I turn over the dirt in the garden before planting time. I suppose those don't count.

I have a couple of friends that collect rocks, when they take a vacation they always bring some back. I don't know why, perhaps they look at the rock and it help them remember the good times. Probably never been to Plymouth, from what I here that's not much of a rock.

I'll byte.

What is a Blackpool Rock, and what do you do with it? And where can I get one?

Scuzzy; it looks like some sort of weapon

Looks like some type of hard candy to me.

Rock is a sweet (candy) stick that has something printed through it - usually the name of the seaside resort where it is purchased (Blackpool is a pretty cheesy seaside resort in the North West of England).  Very popular with tourists as it is a sweet snack and also a souvenir.  It's called rock because it is a hard candy.  The lettering through the middle is pretty clever.  You can also buy novelty rock that has a picture or pattern printed through it.

I could have said Brighton Rock was my favourite but that is also a famous stage play here in the UK.

Buff; Sweet.

Stray Cats did "Rumble in Brighton" which covers Rock and well, cats.  So Scuzzy's all over it.

Until Bill's photo I did not realize snowmen left those, in the yard.  I'd hate to step in one.

I'm really not a fan of hard candy.  Heck, I don't care much for soft candy. Not a candyman. (candyman. candyman.).  I'd definitely save it for a souvenir and not eat it.  I've got a Russian (well, probably Ukrainian) Kraft chocolate bar a student gave me.  It's a momento.  Plus, it's pretty much hard candy, now.

I like hard rock, though.  I'd rather bang my head than my teeth.

Ace; not that I could do much more damage.

Well the one rock I don't like is the one that puts me between it and a hard place.

I did watch that Pink Floyd special on PBS the other day, that was OK. Brought back some memories of the time I saw them live over in Chicago at Soldiers Field. I watched it on the computer here since the sound system is better than on the regular TV and yeah, it was good.

We've been looking at some of those new LCD panel televisions and I'm down to a short list of contenders. Perhaps I'll have one for the holiday, if not, soon after.

This Panasonic plasma 1080p HDTV (//http://) is probably right up your alley.

Scuzzy; I'm holding my breath until I get one

I will take a look at that. I've been leaning toward one of those 42 inch LG Opus models, very nice.

We probably don't really need one that big, but we'll see. Either that or just get a 26-28 inch monitor and use one of my computers as a media center. The media center included with Vista does a nice job with a decent TV card.
