reinstall windows to Satellite 4015cdt

Had this laptop since 1999. Reformatted the harddrive. Reinstalled windows but apparently over the years, and several computers, the windows disk that belongs to that machine is lost in time. The numbers on the one that I thought would work don't!
Can't keep track of alll of the Windows disks. Can anyone help with this problem. Microsoft paranoia is growing old and making life difficult. Linux is looking better and better!

1999 was the time Microsoft started affixing the product key to the PC itself - check the bottom of the notebook computer -- the product key should be on a sticker there.

Thanks, sadly it is not there, nor is it on the Toshiba Recovery Disk envelope.
