How to fix Windows 2000 crashes

I've been experiencing system hangs (total) in Windows 2000 (Internet Explorer, Media Player etc.) ever since I reinstalled it.  It has been driving me crazy.  But, then I remembered that in order to get Paint Shop Pro 7 working the last time I installed it, I had to set the menu animations to Slide rather than Fade.



I changed this yesterday and the computer's not hung once.  I hope this helps anyone who's getting random hanging.
