In your opinion what seems to be the best and QUIETEST psu today? I have read many reviews but they are all relative. I am looking for users opinions. Thanks.

I have a Silverstone Zeus power supply and love it.

If you can afford it, take a look at PC Power & Cooling Silencer series.

PC Power & Cooling PSUs are among the best that money can buy. Unfortunately, I can't even afford one. Otherwise all my computers would have one.

My vote would go to the Corsair HX series.  They're quiet, high quality, high efficiency and have modular cables.

But do you really need 600W?  I'd be suprised if a decent 400W wouldn't be enough because most mainstream computers won't go over 200W peak draw.

Let's see 2 dvd burners, 1 floppy with 9/1 card reader, canopus advc 50 capture device, 1 digital doc 5+ fan controller and temp reader, 4 120cm fans, 3 500gb hdd, 1 esata 500gb hdd, 7900gs card, 1 pci sound card, Q6600 cpu, 4gb memory, plus will upgrade to and 8800 when necessary and some extra usb added ports and firewire.  When I did a psu calculator it said upper 500's for sure.

In that case, perhaps you should go for a high wattage PSU (especially considering the absolutely rediculous power consumption of GeForce 8800 series cards).  My recommendation for the Corsair HX-620 still stands, although a system with 3 7200RPM hard drives and a GeForce 8800 series card is not going to be quiet by any means.

The manual for my new motherboard, Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe specifies a 600 watt power supply for a fully configured system. Whatever that may be.

I'm using a  SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550. I like it, it's quiet and seems to do the job nicely.

What about the Antec EarthWatts 500 watt? $79 at newegg with free shipping. I just got done building a computer for a customer, and I used the 430 watt version. It was built as a highly efficient computer, so it didn't really need the power. It was an X2 4800+ BE, 2 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drives, a 7300GT, 1 optical, and a card reader/floppy. The powersupply was extremely quiet, cool, and stable. I'll bet the 500 watt version would be sufficient for you, and highly quiet and efficient.
