Death Noises in Monitor

I cannot say it is unexpected.  I heard a sharp crack noise in the monitor today and the screen went blank.  I had to reboot the computer to re-engage the video, a little strange.  I then heard the same noise a little later, saw the screen go blank, then snap back on in a second or two.  That could also be a video card or connection problem.  I just "love" mysteries.  If the cost is not prohibitive, the next monitor likely will be flat panel.  I will have to save for it though.  Since I am not much of a gamer, the pixel latency would not be a major factor.
