A recent government article says that failure to clean a hard drive before discarding it has provided pirates with millions in wealth because of failure to remove social security numbers, credit cards, etc.  One innocent recipient of a used Salvation army donated hard drive was able to tap into a bank account with no problem.  She passed the discovery to the "dumb" party and erased the drive.  The feds recommend Free KillDisk, but remember that this is the bunch that thinks they can manage your finances better than you can.   ::)
