Title: Need New Monitor
Post by: scuzzy on May 31, 2009, 03:48 hrs
My trusty ol' 20" Samsung 204B isn't so trusty anymore. Recently it developed a glitch that causes it to slowly resume from sleep mode. Too slowly, like Ace. As time goes by, it is getting noticeably worse.

So, I'm looking for a quality 23" or 24" widescreen replacement. I'm thinking that a resolution of 1920 x 1200 would be ideal, but I'm flexible. But not flexible enough to get Samsung's "Touch of Color" series. I think they're really cheezy.

Your thoughts are welcome. I suppose HDMI inputs would be nice, but a glossy surface is out. I don't care if it has speakers, although I'm quite certain I won't use them.

IMO, the best way to buy a monitor is to visit a local store and look at them.  You can always price and buy on line but you never really can judge the differences between brands and models.  Beyond the details of connection types, response times and the like, if you don't really enjoy looking at it, it isn't worth the powder to blow it to Michiana.

That's good advice, Bill. I think I'll visit our local stores on my next day off and see what is available.

Thanks.

I agree with Bill on this one. Although I like my monitor, Samsung 226bw 22inch. I don't think I would have purchased this one due to the stupid blue flashing light that is located around the power switch when the monitor goes into standby. Really, the light is so bright in a dark room one could almost thread a needle. Due to the location of the light around the switch it's almost impossible to darken it up with a Sharpie.

I'm with you on the touch of color, I looked at their flat panel TV with that design and didn't care for it.

Thanks for reminding me to avoid irritating LED lights.

That should narrow it down to only one or two monitors left to pick from.  >:(
