Worrysome But Not Troublesome

I am running XP and using Outlook for my email. After I check my email and exit from Outlook, the window to connect to the internet pops up. I have to click it three or four times to make it go away. Is there any way I can stop this and just use the internet connection icon on my desktop? Thanks in advance for your continued good help.

Is your antivirus software up to date, and your firewall as well?
