Hi Guys I have a advent 6419 laptop.
When I put a cd into the drive the icon appears then goes off,then if I go to my computer and click on the cd/dvd drive it opens but there is nothing there.If I eject the disc right clicking on the drive then on eject it ejects ok .

Can you boot the system from an operating system CD?  If you can, you've got a driver problem.

If you cannot, the drive needs to be replaced.

No I cant boot from the drive.
What sort of job are they to replace + how do you find the drive I found the hdrive + the fan but not cd/dvd drive.

usually you can take the keyboard out somehow, then the mounting screws for the drive are accessible. usnrew slike out sorted. easy...

i just did mine today!!!
