Microsoft Needs to Limit Pagefile Size

I find it a bit odd that whenever memory goes up, so does pagefile allocation.  Mine is now over 2Gig of virtually dead space consuming a major part of the partition, while memory is 1.5G.  I would guess that 4 Gigs of memory would cause XP to allocate over 6G Pagefile to dead space.  This sounds a bit like a Congressional maneuver here.   ???

Can't you manually set the page file? I keep mine locked at exactly 2GB.

I had considered doing that.  I have read of a few programs that use pagefile as a buffer.  The ones I have seen listed are way above my budget though.  I probably will lock it too, if you have experienced no problems.

Whiz,
I have been using a locked page file on a separate partition for a couple of years w/o difficulty.
And while it might be imagination, after I first made the change, The machine seemed quicker.

I have also read the same thing.  Thanks.   8)

Ditto. I've been using a locked page file for about the last 8 or 9 years.

Since you have 1.5GB of RAM, I'd set the minimum page file to 1.5GB, with no maximum.
