Karen

I had no trouble accessing the Zone Alarm url just now.  Maybe their server was temporarily down when you tried.  Here's the link:  http://www.zonelabs.com/

Thanks Karen,  I used the link in your message and received the same "This page can't be displayed"

I had to uninstall ZoneAlarm because it continued to give the message ZAlarm caused an error in Kernel32.dll.

To date I have been using the free version, however I purchased the Pro version but could never get it installed.

Have you had any problems with ZoneAlarm?

Hi Joanie,

Sorry you're experiencing trouble with Zone Alarm.  I've been using the free version for about a year and a half (ever since getting a cable modem).  No problems or complaints here.  I often use an Open Nap file sharing program, and it's not unusual for me to get 100 or more alerts an hour when connected...all of which Zone Alarm successfully blocks.

I don't understand why you're unable to access the Zone Alarm home page.  Both http://www.zonelabs.com and http://www.zonealarm.com/ are working fine on my end.

Sounds like their might be some kind of error with your Internet Explorer that is not letting you connect to the Zonelab/Zonealarm site.  You might want to check your internet/security options under IE tools.  Are you having problems accessing any other web pages?

Here's the contact info for Zone Alarm (as taken from their web page):

Zone Labs Inc.

U.S. Headquarters

1060 Howard Street

San Francisco, CA 94103

USA

Tel 415-341-8200

Fax 415-341-8299

They also have an on-line tech support e-mail form, but won't help you if you can't access the page.

I do have a copy of the Zone Alarm Pro Users/Support Manual that I downloaded from their site.  It's in Adobe Acrobat format and is 343 pages in length.  If you like, I'd be glad to e-mail it to you.  It's approximately 3.6mb, but took just over a minute to download via cable modem.

If I can be of any help, just let me know.

Good luck!

Hi Karen,

No Luck, I tried both the links and the same page would not display. Went to the security setting and it is on Medium which should allow me access to ZoneAlarm.

There are no problems getting to other websites so now I am very baffled and don't know what to do.

A friend is coming over this morning and we are going to play computer, perhaps she will have an idea.

If anything else come to your mind please let me know.

Thanks,

Joanie

Hey, RahRah,

It could be a problem with a router between your machine and ZoneAlarm's server. To verify that the problem is outside your machine, try typing 'tracert www.zonealarm.com' in the Run menu. If the trace route stalls out on one of the routing servers, you can pass the info along to ZoneAlarm and your ISP.

You can also go to www.traceroute.org, pick out a few servers on the coast near you and see if the trace program finds a clear path to ZoneAlarm from them.

Hi Bear,

Tried to run tracer and all I get is a blank tracer screen with a active blinking cursor.

My system is not stable. The CD writer is finishing up at 98 percent instead of 100 and I got the message "Msgsrv32 not responding" I don't know what is happening here. I downloaded MS latest security file a couple of days ago and Safe Safari search engine installed itself thanks to MS and then I installed PrintMaster 11 and that is when everything got messed up, I think. PM is now uninstalled. I uninstalled ZoneAlarm because it was creating errors in the Kernel32.dll.

Hope I do don't have to do a recover thingy. Jeeeeeesh I hate computers.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I am going to call my ISP now.

Bear,

The addy for tracert worked and it went immediately. Here are the results.

RahRah, try rebooting to DOS and from a C prompt type in scanreg /opt, then scanreg /fix.

The first command removes or fixes bad keys in your registry, the second does a more thorough registry scan and rebuild and may take several minutes.

Don't know if that will help with accessing Zone Labs, but it should help stabilize your system.

The traceroute from SDSC does show that the routing from their server is acceptable, so at least somebody from SoCal can get through. Unless you share the same backbone, which isn't likely, that's really about all it tells you though.

See if you can access Zone Labs after running the scanreg utilities.

Oops, RahRah, I forgot you're noe running Windows ME. Not sure you can even reboot to DOS using that OS, so I doubt that those DOS registry utilities will help. Dang Microsoft.

Yo Bear,

I can now get to zonelabs. The techy at my ISP had me delete the temp internet files along with the off line content and I needed to eliminate the www but I still can't get the Tracert to work. It comes up but there is nothing but the blinking cursor.

Is it safe for me to do the register stuff using ME?? I get a little, no I get a lot scared when it comes to that registry.

Many, many thank youses.

RahRah, I've done a little checking at the MS  site and it looks like the registry tools work in both 98 and ME. Check out this page for more info.

Thanks Again Bear,  I just printed that information out. It is very helpful. I will wait until Bobba comes over so I have some support sitting beside me, she is fearless.

How many hours do you think you have invested in all this computer stuff, including burning the midnight oil?

Does anyone know how to get ahold of Ed Siegler from ZoneAlarm?? The zonelab address is nothing but an empty page.
