At a recent market my son purchased an old Toshiba T8000 Laptop.

I personally have absolutely no laptop knowledge myself as desktops is all i have ever used.
However i charged up the battery and powered up the machine, it prompts for a password, even though what i believe to be the HD is missing (Vacant slot,LH side under the keyboard and behind battery)
Perhaps the password is stored elsewhere!

any members have any knowledge of this model?

Not on that model, but you are most likely being prompted for a BIOS password. The only way I know to fix this is contacting the manufacturer for a password with proof of ownership.
