My daughter finally received her PA degree last Saturday. I've been setting up her gift in her study, and thought I'd toss in a photo of the finished product in its new home. The system made the trip in one piece and is working flawlessly. Click the photo for the full image.

The highlights of the system are:

I forgot to mention that the Klipsch ProMedia speakers sound absolutely incredible. I was skeptical when I first received them, but the speakers quickly put my fears aside. They perform exceptionally well, with stunning clarity, and are easily worth the $99 price tag. I strongly recommend them.

Very nice setup. She should be very happy with it. Hopefully, she wil fully utalize it's capabilities, as it is one powerful machine.

How is the bass responce on the 2.0 system? I know the Klipch will sound rich, but I like low, rock hard, bass in my sysem. To bad my Altec Lansings don't do that too well. However, I've been spending too much money lately anyways, new computer, and driving my car has become a major expense in itself.  ::)

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.0 system does not include a subwoofer, so it does not have a powerful bass that will knock your socks off. However, the bass is pure and clean, and does not overpower the rest of the frequencies. I find that they provide a great balance in the lower notes while giving an overall pleasant listening experience.

By turning up the volume the speakers provide a strong, rich level of music that is sure to please the purists that want to hear all the notes. These speakers avoid the "thump and boom" that is prevalent with too many subwoofer systems.

That is true, I have been unhappy with most computer subs, esspecially logitech. They are boomy and loose. I like my bass deep, tight, and clear. My current altec lansing setup has a 5.25" sub and it is pretty clean, but it doesn't create impact, isn't very deep, and runs out of power in th high end. Although, it is very acceptable, and cleaner than louder logitch subs. However, Klipschs generally have very nice sounding subs.

Thanks, Igloo. The unit is an APC 800VA (540 watts) battery backup. It should provide for about a 45 minute backup to the system in case of a power outage, and it has an automatic voltage regulator (AVR). The AVR makes sure that the power going to the system is consistent, and protects the computer from spikes, brown outs, and black outs.

The APC comes with software to automatically save files and shut down the PC. I've been using various UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) units for several years now, but I've never installed the software. I save often anyway, and I would never walk away from a system with unsaved files left running.

If I'm away from home, the worst thing that will happen is that the UPS will *cleanly* cut off the power to the PC once it gets down to a certain level. That's much better than having the power going to the PC surging up and down, or cutting on and off, which is typical during a brown out or a black out.

A UPS unit can easily pay for itself a dozen times over if the power decides to go out while you're flashing a motherboard, firmware, etc.

Thanks for asking, Bill.

My daughter and her husband are well. They live in the northern part of Louisiana, so they were not directly affected by the events further south. Currently, they are in Mexico enjoying their honeymoon.
