Title: SD Reader on Windows 95/98
Post by: Chandler on September 02, 2007, 04:27 hrs
Does anyone know the answer to this?

A friend of ours has been given an old computer and apparently it runs either Windows 95 or Windows 98.  I'm not sure if it's a laptop or a desktop and I don't know if it has any USB ports (I'm trying to find out both).

Here's the problem - he has also got a new digital camera, that takes SD memory cards.  How can he get the photos from the SD card to the computer?  I'm not sure that the camera's USB cable will do the job because presumably that works as a USB Mass Storage Device and as far as I know there is no support for that under Windows 95/98.

But if that's not enough there is another complication.  If it is a desktop system, it will not be a simple job of throwing in a USB 2.0 PCI card, a couple of sticks of memory and installing Windows Me/2000 - importing computer parts to this particular area is illegal.

How about a plug-in removable USB SD reader?

Is it possible that he has Win98SE installed? If so, it should work.

I just happened to remember that my son had 98 FE and he was able to use his camera with it, albeit with USB 1.1 speed.
