I am trying to share one of my drives on my network so all my other computers can see it, Vista and XP. I have it setup, and my other computers can see the "E drive" as well as my libraries, but when I try to access them, I get access denied errors. I have gone to the sharing settings, and it is set so everyone has read, write, and full control. I turned off password protected sharing, but still cannot access from other computers. The only folder I can get to from my Vista and XP computers on my 7 computer is the Public folder. Any ideas?

Do you have any firewalls running that might be blocking access?

No firewalls other than Windows Firewall. Only security is AVG Free and Spybot.
I will send feedback to M$ about this one.
I have found that the permissions are sometimes not enough with Vista/7 - you have to take ownership of the folder too.
How do I take ownership of a folder?
I would guess W7 is similar to Vista regarding ownership of files. To take ownership, the following should work.
1. In Windows Explorer window, locate the files or folders for which you want to change ownership or permissions.
2. Right click on it, and then select Properties.
3. Click on Security tab.
4. Click on Advanced button at the bottom.
5. In ââ?¬Å?Advanced Security Settingsââ?¬Â dialog window, click on Owner tab.
6. To take ownership of the object, click the Edit button.
7. Additional ââ?¬Å?Advanced Security Settingsââ?¬Â dialog will appear. Highlight the user name in the Change owner to box that you want to assign as the owner for the object. Click OK to make the change.
8. Click OK button to exit.
9. Click OK again to exit completely.
10. To assign necessary permissions to the user too, repeat step 1 to 3 to open the object�s Properties window again.
11. In object�s Properties window, click on Edit button to change permissions.
12. Highlight the Administrators or the user who needs the permissions on the object to be changed in the ââ?¬Å?Group or user namesââ?¬Â box.
13. In the Permissions for the user name or group you chose, click on ââ?¬Å?Full Controlââ?¬Â under the ââ?¬Å?Allowââ?¬Â column to assign full access rights control permissions to Administrators group.
14. Click ââ?¬Å?OKââ?¬Â twice when done.
For what it's worth, I too am experiencing this same problem. For now I have given up in frustration, but I will look at this possible solution the next chance I get.
It's odd that every time that Microsoft comes up with an idea to make things easier, my life becomes exponentially more difficult.

Mark, I followed all the steps, but got the owner tab, and I am the owner. I don't see what I would want to change it to.
Scuzzy, so you can't get it either? I love windows 7, but sharing in XP was DEFINITELY the best. You could even share optical drives, which you couldn't with Vista, but theoretically can again in 7.

Have you set the permissions for yourself as full control?

Under the security tab within properties of the folder I want to share, Authenticated Users, SYSTEM, Administrators, and Users all have ever allow box checked except special permissions. Not only can I not edit files from my laptop over the network while logged in as me on the desktop, I can't even view the files. The only folder I can view is Public.
