Thinkpad Display Failure...

I have a IBM Thinkpad 600E (win 98) that suddenly is having display problems. When I boot the computer I can see for several seconds the image on screen, though it is flickering. Then it cuts out, leaving only a very faint image (too dark to see anything more than shapes). If I toggle the Function-F7 command three times I can get the image to reappear very briefly, then it cuts out again. Almost seems like the LCD is ok, but it's not getting the full power video signal. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Brian

It sounds like an LCD inverter is failing - this is a common mode of failure on ThinkPads of that generation.

Usually these are not that expensive to replace - $100-150 with labor.
