Repairing MPEG2 Stream

I have been a huge fan on the Smokey and the Bandit films since I was a kid.  I have the 1st one on DVD, and I'm considering getting the second.  The 3rd one is only on VHS though, and I wanted DVD.

Last night they were showing it on TV, in widescreen and uncut too.  I decided to record it using my digital TV adapter, which takes the MPEG2 stream off the air and saves it straight to the hard drive unchanged.  It was working fine, but whenever a bus went past, or dodgy boy-racer's car the signal would have a glitch in it.  The minor glitches are OK, but when it drops out for a second or more, it causes the PC to crash (when using DVD hardware acceleration).

I was wondering, are there any tools which can repair this without the need to re-encode?
