new internet explorer pack??

i recently downloaded this new internet explorer i think its 6 or so for win 98 and after some time when i try to open it , it says i am trying to run a programm that has a higher version installed on it ie trying to run 95  or so even i dont understand the problem so i unistalled internet explorer . but can anyone tell me if i could have done any thing else? ???
