Hey dudes.

I've got Windows x64 and Windows XP Pro on an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Laptop. I installed a Giga-Byte GN-WIKG 54 Mbps internal wireless networkd card yesterday and the drivers from Giga-Byte's website worked fine for XP Pro, but of course it didn't for x64. I've searched around for this all morning (it's 11 AM here) and i've found some drivers for the same kind of internal MINI-PCI network card as i've got for x64 (believe it or not). But when i try to install them i get this really disturbing error message as stated in the subject, first time i've seen it!

Been looking for help around this as well but there are way too many things that can cause this error message, it can be found during many other operations in Windows.

Um, well...since You guys have saved me so many times before i ask You for some aid again!

Thank You!

Most wireless cards are built around one or two chipsets - usually Intersil or Broadcom.    You may be able to identify which you have and use the silicon manufacturer's driver for it.

Robin

Thanks query, but i'm new to wireless stuff (and portable PC's as well) so i don't really understand what You're talking about.

Um, i could paste some info about the card here and maybe You could find out for me? This is quite important to me! Thanks again!

Go to Control Panel--->System--->Hardware--->Device Manager (I am on a linux machine trying to do this from memory) and click on information displayed.  You would need to go from the functioning OS, of course.  You then could check on driver availability for that device and download it to desktop.  Unzip to a temporary  folder, and copy that temp folder to a flashdrive for updating the 64 system.

If you can get a driver, do not install it directly, but go instead to the hardware device manager and choose to update driver from the unzipped driver package on the flashdrive.  The desired device will likely be under a yellow question mark  in Device Manager, though not always.

The card uses a Ralink chipset - perhaps they have drivers.
