Sorry, I can't advise you on fan installation (since I'm technically challenged), but others can.  Since I have about the same Q machine as you and with a fan whine I've been living with for about 18 months, I'll be interested in a report on how your installation works out.  Good luck.

Hi, Trella,

From what I've been able to find out, each situation is a bit different when it comes to installing a fan. Here's a site that has several How-tos for different fans and different CPUs: http://www.coolerguys.com/.

Looking them over and comparing them to your own situation may help some. Others may have more specific advice, but if worse comes to worst, you should be able to find a local shop to install it for you without much expense.

By the way, you might want to check your email address under Members profiles. Your email notifications of replies are bouncing back.

Thanks for your help.  I'm still having email problems with Outlook Express; seems like it can never connect with the pop or smtp servers or both.  I'm always getting errors, don't know why.  Do you?

Some accounts require that the "My Server Requires Authentication" option to be checked under Tools, Accounts, Mail, .

Never? Is the problem 100% of the time? If so, did your problems begin after installing Norton Antivirus (NAV) with e-mail protection? If you have NAV, you may need to setup your accounts manually, removing the changes made by NAV.

PC Power and Cooling will provide installation instructions.  But, if you still have questions or are just uncertain during the process, their ts folks are really good. Patient, too.

Hey 3Q - everybody has the ability to delete their own poast. That's what the trash can icon is for. Also, as moderator, you have the ability to both edit and delete other's poasts.

No, Scuzzy, my email problems aren't 100% of the time; sometimes it'll load 2 or 3 messages or send 2 or 3 messages, then disconnects from the server.  Sometimes it'll give me 4 duplicate messages of everything, but usually it disconnects before it gives me all my messages or sends out all my email.  I don't have Norton, but I have McAfee through their clinic and I keep it updated.  I know what you mean about the server problem; did the same to me when I poasted.

I have a Quantex 500SM 3-x and I think I need a new fan--noise comes and goes, sometimes really loud--,but don't know where to find how many pins it has, what kind I need, or how to install it.  Anyone know where to look to find the information to know what to buy and where some good step by step installation instructions are?  I cleaned the CPU out with compressed stuff, but didn't help the noise.  And thanks for your forum--bought WIN ME and decided not to install it over my Win 98.  Especially with no more backup from Quantex.
