I'm not familiar with nuwavepc, but you might want to seriously consider an ATX case by PC Power and Cooling. They are a reputable company with excellent power supply and cooling products.

atrox, first off what kind of system are you interested in building. Athlon, or Intel. That decision will pretty much be the deciding factor. Also what do you want the computer to do. I looked up www.nuwavepc.com in www.resellerratings.com and could not find them which means that either no one has poasted a rating for them or the company might be too new yet. Either way poast back with your answer and we will help you more. Good luck,

I want to build a Intel Pentium III system for internet, web page design , some graphics stuff and a friend wants to build an intel pentium III based Digital audio workstation.

We are both skeptical about buying athlon despite all of the good things we hear.

Thanks for the quick replys and links.

Howdy all,

You know I have been spending a lot of time looking at case's lately.

The one's I keep coming back to is in the performance series by antec.

I like the workstation tower and the full tower. They seem to well thought out.

http://www.antec-inc.com/product/cases/perfhome.html

I'm sure the ones from pc power and cooling are great cases, I just like the looks of the antec ones better.

Any one have a comment for the antec? good/bad?

atrox,

I recommend that you buy what makes you comfortable, although I don't understand why you want to stay away from AMD. Before you completely rule them out, at least do so on an informed decision.

Most of the Poaster Forum members prefer AMD to Intel, and for good reason. AMD has been up Intel's behind to the point where Intel is worried, and has done everything possible to squash AMD. Unfortunately, Intel chose to bully motherboard manufacturers that support AMDs, instead of building a higher quality CPU to compete with AMD.

Personally, I believe AMD's Athlon line is far superior to Intel's P4 when you compare bang for the buck. As far as the PIII is concerned, the AMD Athlon is superior PERIOD. If you want to build a computer that rocks the house, then you'll want to consider AMD.

If I were building my own system from scratch, it would NOT be with "Intel Inside".

If I do go the AMD route...where should I would you buy the barebones system at...and do you recommend anything they make other than the thunderbird (ie. something cheaper)

thanks again

For some good info on AMD go to:

http://www.amdzone.com/

For some 1st rate reviews check:

http://www.tomshardware.com/

http://www.anandtech.com/index.html

As for where to buy, I would check reseller ratings like John sugjested

above. Look for resellers that have good ratings and see what they have to offer. If you find something that looks good, you could poast back here for feedback. If you are going to go barebones, you may want to consider building your own.

Good Luck

Pat

atrox,

I'll venture a couple of places with good reputations to look for barebones AMD systems.

Check out www.monarchcomputer.com and www.mwave.com

Be sure that you do your homework so that you have a good idea what you want. The good news is that either of those vendors will assemble and test your new system for you before shipping.

Atrox, if you decide to use AMD, which I reccomend that you do. You will find that AMD will work just as well for Web page designing as it will for graphic arts, and digital recording. Things to consider with any system are the components. Sometimes with barebone systems you don't always get the best componets for you money. For what you describe as your uses you will want a high grade video and sound cards. Plenty of hard drive spance and enough ram (memory) for graphic arts design. Plus hard drive space to handle your programs and most likely a CD-RW drive as well. Computers can be as specialized as people at tasking. Take a look at this site AMD System If you followed this design you most certainly want to change some components but at least you get an idea of what is involved. Another thing to consider is Operating systems and Power supplies. Again they are each specific for different applilcations. To get an idea of prices try these sites. Directron, Axiontech, Pagecomputer, PcPowerCooling, TigerDirect, and Egghead, Crucial I have used each one at one time or another and each has been a good experience.

Here is a little more info to help ease any fears you may have on buying AMD.

Here is a quick breakdown from the Top 100 as reported in the latest issue of PC World (Oct.), which would have to be considered a mainstream magazine.

Top 10 Power PCs - 8 for AMD, 2 for Intel

Top 10 Value PCs ? 5 for AMD, 5 for Intel

Top 15 Home PCs ? 11 for AMD, 4 for Intel, the top five were all Athlon.

The only place Intel still shows dominance is in notebooks, all 15 are Intel based.

For a look at the September?s Top 100 see:

I have heard several good things about http://www.bingpc.com they seem to be a great company, they have a very good return policy, and the best prices i've seen.

I am a first time "poaster" so please bear with me:)

I am looking for a reputable company to buy a barebones sytem (case, mobo, processor, ram).  I want the system to have quality motherboard, case, ram...name brand equipment.

SO far I have found www.nuwavepc.com  has anyone here had experience with nuwave or could anyone recommend anyone better.

Thanks in advance
