For those timid souls afraid to mess with the registry, like old dad, there is a Novice way to do this.

In appearance just make the icon size 30 or less,Voila!,no shortcut arrows.

Want them back just make size 31 or higher.

I like the shortcut arrows myself. Foolproofs me from deleting apps that I just think are shortcuts.

Isn't it a bit redundant to have shortcut arrows on your shortcuts to let you know they are shortcuts?

To get rid of those little arrows, you will need to edit the registry.  Backing up the registry before making any modifications is prudent.

Go to Start, then Run.  Type Regedit and press enter.

Once in the registry, go to Edit and then Find.  Type "isshortcut" WITHOUT the quotation marks.

Press delete once it finds a reference to it. Press F3 for it to find the next and each subsequent reference. There may be several.

After you have deleted all references exit the registry.  You will have to reboot to have the change take effect.
