I am running XP Pro sp3 on a Lenovo notebook.  Visiting the CNN Business page causes Firefox ver 1.5.0.12 to completely shut down.

This is the only site causing this problem that I am aware of.  I do not have this problem with IE6.

Any thoughts?

Bill

edit: upgrading to ver. 2.0.0.6 did not solve the problem.

Not sure about a solution.

I'm using version 3.0.3 and it works fine on that page.

ver 2.0.0.17 on my home desktop works OK as well.  Must be something unique to the notebook, but I haven't a clue as yet.

My version 3.0.3 also works fine. Maybe 2.0.0.17 is worth considering for your laptop.

I have now upgraded the notebook to 3.03 and clicking on a link on the CNBC home page still causes FF to close.  Turns out it is not an unusual problem. The Mozilla FF forum is full of similar poasts, about different web sites, and the recommended fixes and diagnositics don't seem to have an effect.

Guess I'll wait until Mozilla figures it out.  Otherwise the notebook is fine and is only 6 months old.

Update:

The issue seems to be enabling third party cookies.  Sites like NCBC and CNN apparantly require accepting 3rd party cookies to work.
Making this setting change appears to have solved the abrupt closing problem.

Edit:  I just experienced the problem again.  Seems 3rd party cookies is only a part of the problem.
