compaq presario 1220 running win95. must install sound drivers every time I boot if I want to use sound, like for music. I can install drivers and then play music, but if I shut down and re start, I HAVE TO RE-INSTALL SOUND DRIVERS. VERY ANNOYING. please let me know if there is a simple solution. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your board is not retaining its PnP settings - either due to a dead CMOS battery, or failed NVRAM (the chip itself).  The former can often be replaced, sometimes with soldering - the parts run from $10-50 plus another $75-100 labor.  If it's the NVRAM chip that is shot, you'll need a new mainboard, which can range wildly in price from a couple to several hundred dollars.
