Criminy; how many stars do you have now, 12...?

Just like you to want to see liberals returned. Interesting sounding radio; will have to check that out. Man, I haven't listened to AM, at least intentionally, for a long long time.  As a kid we used to hang the transistor on the dashboard, for a car radio... I remember late nights in bed twiddling the little plastic side dial to get WLS from Chicago and Larry Lujack or Dick Biondi.  Or picking up Harry Caray outta Philadelphia on clear summer nights. Used to have one of those "world band" radios with all the weird options, too.

Nearly nuts, huh. Your nuts, I would imagine. Wouldn't it be cool if you could pick up weather from someplace way far away...?

Well, no, I guess not. That'd just be stupid. Ok, scratch that thought. And where it came from.. no, over more by my right ear..yeah, there... oooh... thanks.

Ace; he can pick up frequencies most can't.

Ring bells for service.

Well, I got my radio yesterday. I have to admit that I'm impressed. I now have a "usable" signal at work. Not perfect as it still has some minor interference on the AM signal, but *much, much* better than anything else I've tried. Most people in this building suffer to get any kind of signal. Now, I have several AM/FM and TV stations to choose from.

The radio looks nice, and is solidly built. If you have a desire for an excellent portable radio, this is it.

Thanks, but the Freeplay looks more like what I've been looking for. I have a pretty good multiband already, though it's due for replacement one of these days. It's an old WorldStar ten-band. I can pick up all sorts of stuff, including air traffic if I want, but I seldom do. The original telescoping antenna broke off some years ago, so I affixed an old car antenna to the empty hole and it works pretty well. It has an external antenna jack as well, but I've not found an antenna with an RCA plug so I don't use it. Picked it up about twenty years ago at a garage sale for four bucks.

My grandmother had an old Emerson console from the thirties that was really amazing. My dad had the whole roof perimeter of her house wired as an antenna. Before and during WWII, they used to listen to European shortwave radio stations, including Hitler's speeches from Berlin.

For those who are interested in radios and other electronics, you might be interested in C. Crane Company. For one, they carry the CCRadio Plus, considered by many the best AM radio available anywhere. (The CCRadio also has FM/TV and Weather.) I'll let you know if that's a true statement, since I should be receiving it today. I get next to impossible AM reception in the building where I work, and it's nothing short of frustrating. I remember nearly going nuts on September 11th, because I couldn't get a signal to find out what was going on. Of course, the Internet was jammed. Anywho, the CCRadio Plus is made by Sangean, who specializes in multiband radios.

Of course, C. Crane does have other nice toys, but I recommend you check out their "Orphans and Closeout" section. I did do some legwork on them; they appear to be on the "up and up", and they have a fairly liberal return policy. If you prefer, you can request a free catalog from their home page.
