Mr. Muddle

Hi.

Sometimes during the installation process of a program, a box appears which already has my username filled in (to register the product).

How do I change this username in Windows 98SE so that the name that is pre-filled in these boxes is what I want it to be?

Thanks.

Chandler

The username and organisation are stored in the registry; you can find them at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion (I think)
Take care when working with the registry, as you can make Windows unable to boot.

Thanks Chandler.

Is it safe to change the username this way?

Don't worry, I have deleted things many times from the registry, but thankfully, everything has always worked out as I wanted it to.
