I just bought a 19" Samsung flat screen and it's telling me that I should set resolution to 1440x900. This is not an option under properties. If I set it on one of the lower resolution settings, the display doesn't stretch along the whole of the monitor. It comes about an inch short on either side. My graphics card is a Diamond Radeon x1550. Any suggestions to get the best display possible and still fit the whole monitor? Thanks much. By the way my options are

Two things come to mind...

Ensure that you have the latest drivers for the video card. Also check to see if the Samsung requires drivers for your operating system. Some monitors, including Samsung, must have the driver installed to operate properly.

Check the Display Property settings. If the monitor is not listed by name, then you probably need to install the monitor drivers.

I installed the driver that came with the disk and updated my video card driver.1440x900 is not an option though.

The maximum resolution of the monitor can be affected by the refresh rate you are using. Go into Desktop Properties, Settings Tab, Monitor and make sure your refresh rate is not higher than what the monitor can handle.
