Hi.

I am wanting to upgrade my bios by means of flashing it.  I have been to my mb's website and have downloaded the necessary .rom for the flash.
I've been told doing this from windows is very risky and the program suggested (winflash) doesn't seem to want to run on my machine..it keeps closing.

Can anybody direct me here?  Is there a DOS utility for the job and if so how would I go about using it.

System is running winME.

Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a very new system with a utility for flashing the BIOS from the hard drive before Windows loads, you will need to make a DOS boot floppy.   The simplest way to do this is to download a floppy image from www.bootdisk.com -- they have a couple of images designed specifically for flashing your BIOS.

Then put the flash loader and BIOS files on the floppy, boot the machine, and start the flash loader -- back up the old BIOS when that option appears and flash the new one.
