Samsung SyncMaster 930B Monitor Viewing Problem

My SyncMaster 930B monitor stopped displaying.  I thought the problem was my eGeForce FX 5200 PCI DVI video card because the fan on the card stopped working.  I replaced it with a eGeForce 6200 PCI DVI video card (I only have PCI slots on my motherboard).  Still no display.  However, when I shine a flashlight on the screeen, I can see the display barely.  The monitor accepts both DVI and VGA connections so I changed the display setup on my monitor to VGA and connected it to the video chip on my motherboard, with the same result.  I also checked the display options in the menu.  Brightness is at 98%.  Apparently the problem is related to whatever process the monitor uses to light up the screen.  Is there a user fix to this problem, or is the resolution just to replace the monitor?

Sounds like the flouresent tubes that illuminate the LCD are out. It's a common problem. While the old CRT'S were hot, heavy, bulky and so on, they lasted a lot longer. Is it under warranty? Some of these things are 3 yrs.
Would the ocean be deeper if there were no sponges?

Is the monitor's on-screen menu viewable? If not, then the problem is certainly the monitor itself.
